I was ready to like this book through and through but as in the case of Lakas and the Makibaka Hotel one thing really bothered me: the lack of women in Lakas' world. I don't really understand why the authors omit women in these books. It'd be one thing if the tale involved only a couple of characters or was in a naturally unpopulated... This was the book I chose to do for my multi-cultural analysis. Although reading different cultural books is a great way to broaden a child's eyes to a new culture, I don't know if I would read it to a child. It was a very confusing story that talks about a crazy talking fish that runs wild through Manilatown. This book did do a great... In the park, Lakas meets an old man, a manong, who tells him about a special talking fish. Lakas and his dad go shopping and meet the fish who leads them on a chase through Manilatown in San Francisco. More an more residents of Manilatown join the chase. Ehhhhh, didn't care for the illustrations either.
