I read this book for my History of Spain class, and don't remember all the details. (Sorry, Professor Brown!) I do, however, remember that it was a pretty typical medieval heroic poem; but very, very revealing of certain cultural norms, including bigotry and violence and revenge. I enjoyed it, and should probably read it again.
